His first posthumous acting performance appears in Boogie, the feature film starring Pop and actor Taylor Takahashi, which follows author, chef, restaurateur, food personality’s Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir entertainment venture.
Boogie tells the story of Alfred “Boogie” Chin, a Chinese-American basketball player with dreams of making it into the NBA that goes against his immigrant family’s expectations. As Chin moves through the basketball community of New York he meets Pop Smoke’s basketball prodigy character and the two begin a feud to prove they are the best.
The filming of the Eddie Huang-directed film completed before Pop Smoke passed away in February 19, 2020 and is expected to premiere March 5. Watch the first official trailer for Boogie below.
